The Owl and the Raven
In ancient times, the owl flew wherever it pleased during the day and feared nothing. In those days, it was a dyer. Various birds would come to it, and the owl would dye them any color they wished: red, blue, turquoise, yellow... The raven saw this and grew envious. He was a great dandy and wanted the owl to dye him in the most beautiful color. He flew to the owl:"Madam Owl! Madam Owl! Please dye me in some special, unprecedented color, one that no other bird has. I want to amaze the whole world with my beauty!"
"Whoo, whoo, very well!" agreed the owl. She racked her brains for a long time, trying to decide what color to dye the raven! Finally, she placed the raven in a pot with the finest, blackest ink. Then the owl pulled the raven out of the pot and said:
"Well, now there is no bird equal to you!" The raven was delighted and hurried to the mirror to admire the color he had been dyed. He looked and gasped. From head to the very tip of his tail, he had become pitch black, and you couldn't even tell where his eyes or beak were! The raven grew furious:
"What color have you dyed me, you wretch?" The owl began to justify herself:
"You yourself wanted me to dye you in an unprecedented color, one that no other bird has!"
"Just you wait, just you wait! Now we are sworn enemies!" the raven cawed angrily. "I will have my revenge!"
Since then, the owl no longer flies in the daylight. The owl fears the raven's vengeance, which is why it hides during the day.
