The Hare
A poor peasant was walking across an open field when he spotted a hare under a bush. Overjoyed, he said to himself:"Now I'll finally live like a proper householder! I'll catch this hare, kill it with my whip, and sell it for four altyns. With that money, I'll buy a piglet. The piglet will give me twelve piglets. Those piglets will grow up and each will have twelve more. I'll slaughter them all and fill my barn with meat. I'll sell the meat, and with the money, I'll build a house and get married. My wife will bear me two sons: Vaska and Vanka. The boys will plow the fields, and I'll sit by the window and give orders: 'Hey, you kids, Vaska and Vanka! Don't push the workers too hard—you know what it's like to live in poverty!'"
But the peasant shouted so loudly that the hare got scared and ran away, and with it vanished the house, all the riches, the wife, and the children.
