The Tale of the Three Little Pigs
Long, long ago, so long ago,When pigs drank wine,
And monkeys chewed tobacco,
And chickens pecked at it,
And from that, they became tough,
And ducks quacked: quack-quack-quack!
There lived an old pig with her three little piglets. She could no longer feed them and sent them out into the world to seek their fortune.
So, the first little pig went out and met a man carrying a bundle of straw.
"Man, man, give me some straw," asked the little pig. "I will build myself a house."
The man gave him the straw, and the little pig built himself a house.
Soon, a wolf came to his house, knocked on the door, and said:
"Little pig, little pig, let me in!"
But the little pig replied:
"Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!"
Then the wolf said:
"Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down!"
And the wolf huffed, and he puffed, and he blew the house down, and swallowed the little pig.
The second little pig met a man carrying a bundle of sticks and asked him:
"Man, man, give me some sticks, I will build myself a house."
The man gave him the sticks, and the little pig built himself a house.
The wolf came to his house and said:
"Little pig, little pig, let me in."
"Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!"
"Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down!"
And the wolf huffed, and he puffed, and he blew the house down, and swallowed the little pig.
The third little pig met a man carrying a load of bricks and asked him:
"Man, man, give me some bricks, I will build myself a house."
The man gave him the bricks, and the little pig built himself a house.
The wolf came to his house and said:
"Little pig, little pig, let me in!"
"Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!"
"Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down!"
And the wolf huffed, and he puffed, and he huffed, and he puffed, but the house stood firm. The wolf saw that no matter how much he huffed and puffed, he couldn't blow the house down, so he said:
"Listen, little pig, I know where some sweet turnips grow!"
"Where?" asked the little pig.
"In Mr. Smith's garden. Get up early tomorrow, and I'll come by for you, and we'll pick some turnips for dinner."
"Alright!" said the little pig. "I'll wait for you. What time will you come?"
"At six."
They agreed. But the little pig got up at five and picked the turnips before the wolf arrived. When the wolf came at six, he asked:
"Are you up, little pig?"
"Long ago!" replied the little pig. "I've already been to the garden and cooked a pot of turnips for dinner."
The wolf was furious but hid his anger, trying to think of another way to lure the little pig out.
"Little pig, I know where a lovely apple tree grows!"
"Where?" asked the little pig.
"Down in Merry Garden," replied the wolf. "How about tomorrow at five in the morning, I'll come by for you, and we'll pick as many apples as you like. Just don't trick me again."
They agreed.
The next morning, the little pig got up at four and ran as fast as he could to the apple tree. He wanted to return before the wolf arrived. But the garden was far, and he had to climb the tree. Just as he started climbing down, the wolf appeared. The little pig was terrified! The wolf approached and said:
"Ah, it's you, little pig! You came before me again. Well, are the apples tasty?"
"Very!" replied the little pig. "Here, I'll throw you one!"
He threw an apple so far that while the wolf ran after it, the little pig jumped down and ran home.
The next day, the wolf came back as if nothing had happened.
"Listen, little pig," he said, "there's a fair in Shanklin today. Will you come?"
"Of course!" replied the little pig. "What time are you going?"
"At three."
Again, the little pig left early. He ran to the fair, bought a butter churn, and was heading home when he saw the wolf.
In a panic, the little pig climbed into the butter churn, but it tipped over, and he rolled down the hill right toward the wolf. He scared the wolf so much that the wolf ran off, forgetting all about the fair.
When the wolf recovered, he went to the little pig's house and told him what had happened at the fair. The little pig burst out laughing:
"Ha-ha-ha! That was me! I went to the fair and bought a butter churn. When I saw you, I climbed inside and rolled down the hill."
Now the wolf was absolutely furious.
"I'll eat you right now!" he growled and climbed onto the roof, then down the chimney into the fireplace.
The little pig realized he was in trouble, so he quickly lit a fire in the fireplace and put a pot of water on it. As soon as the wolf's legs appeared in the chimney, the little pig removed the lid, and the wolf fell right into the boiling water.
The wolf struggled and twisted in the pot, trying to get out. Finally, with a great effort, he jumped out. But from the strain, he burst! And out of his belly popped—believe it or not!—the two little pig brothers.
The piglets were overjoyed to see each other again and started dancing. They danced and danced until the morning.
