A Mosquito is No Friend to a Gadfly
A horsefly is flying, looking around, and under a bush in the cool shade sits a mosquito. The horsefly says to him:— Let's fly together, brother!
— Eh, it's easy for you, you're all ribs, but I'm fat and afraid of the sun.
— Well, if that's the case, then goodbye.
— Good health, — replied the mosquito.
As soon as the sun set, the mosquito flies, humming a song, and thinks to himself: "If I meet a horse or a person, I'll have a feast!" Then he looks—on a dry branch sits the horsefly, puffed up and dozing.
— Ah, hello, friend! — says the mosquito, nudging the horsefly with his foot.
— Well, hello, — replies the horsefly, still half-asleep.
— Let's fly together now, brother!
— I won't fly, it's cold, and I'm afraid my coat will get damp from the dew.
— Well, goodbye then! Seems like a horsefly is no companion for a mosquito!
— Good night, — answered the horsefly, rubbing his hind legs together, and then began to snore.
